Center for Healthy Communities Project:
Harvest of the Month Project
Assignment’s description:
I picked up fresh produce from the Center for Healthy Communities’ production kitchen once a month (January-May) and deliver the produce to individual classrooms at three different schools in Oroville. Occasionally, I would be assigned to help the staff in the kitchen to prepare for the deliveries as well.
What I learned:
With this project, I learned to be very efficient with my time and to be an independent worker. Since I was mostly alone picking up produce and delivering them by myself, I’ve learned how to work swiftly and deliberately at getting the job done.
Reflection to assignment:
This was a rewarding project that was given to me by my supervisor. I was given the opportunity to work with the kitchen staff and take part in interacting with children of all ages.
Relevance to the profession:
This project is related within my profession because it provides an overview of what children know and don’t know about produce. Through these eye-opening events, it surely inspired me to help take part in educating children about the world of food.
