Article for the Lay Public
Assignment’s description:
I was required to select an interesting topic of my choice and write a comprehendible article for the public to read. The purpose of this project was to creatively write an article that both educates and entertains the reader through the world of media.
What I learned:
In class, I learned how to properly cite individuals who are experts within my topic in articles along with asking in-depth questions. Through this practice, I was able to develop great innovative skills in questioning the experts. This helped me portray the values of shopping at a Farmer’s Market and what it means to them.
Reflection to assignment:
It was fun putting this assignment together because I was writing about a topic that I love and implementing it in a way that was fun and interesting towards the public. I enjoyed talking to my experts because they were very passionate about my topic and gave me a lot of great feedback. This helped me realize all the work, research, and skills journalists have to learn and apply in writing.
Relevance to the profession:
This is critical in the nutritional field of work because we, as health professionals, need to develop a way of writing that is accurate, simple and concise for the public to understand and interpret.
